The Story
A hungry Wolf was prowling near the edge of a meadow when he happened to look into a small hut where the shepherds were gathered for their midday meal. Through the open door, he saw the men feasting on a large, roasted lamb. The sight made the Wolf’s mouth water and his stomach rumble with intense longing.
"What a clamor they would raise!" the Wolf chuckled to himself, hidden behind a thicket of bushes. "If they had caught me eating one of their sheep, they would have chased me with clubs and stones, shouting that I am a wicked beast, a thief, and a menace to the flock. Yet here they are, devouring the very creature they claim to protect, with no shame at all."
He watched for a long time, his eyes narrowing as he observed the shepherds laughing and sharing the tender meat. He realized that the men possessed the same appetite as he did, only they had the power to justify their hunger while labeling his own as a crime. The Wolf sighed, realizing the hypocrisy of the world. He understood then that men often judge the actions of others by a standard they fail to meet themselves, masking their own selfish deeds behind the guise of necessity and authority. With a final glance at the feast, he slunk away into the shadows of the forest, leaving the shepherds to their meal, now wiser about the nature of the creatures who walked on two legs.
Moral of the Story
“It is easy to criticize others for the very faults we ourselves possess.”
