The Story
A hungry Crow was searching for food when he spotted a serpent lying asleep in the warm sun. The Crow, thinking the snake was dead, swooped down and pecked at it. However, the snake was merely resting. Awakened by the sharp sting of the bird’s beak, the serpent coiled in an instant, struck with lightning speed, and caught the Crow in his deadly grip.
As the snake began to squeeze the life out of him, the Crow realized his mistake. He had underestimated his foe and acted without caution. Gasping for air, the Crow cried out, 'Alas! I am a fool. I sought a meal, but instead, I have found my own end. I attacked a creature I did not truly understand, and now I pay the ultimate price for my arrogance and lack of foresight.'
The snake, cold and unyielding, tightened his coils further. The Crow watched the world fade, his regret echoing in the silent forest. He had seen only the stillness of the creature and failed to perceive the hidden danger that lay beneath the surface. It was a lesson learned too late, for in the wild, the appearance of vulnerability is often a mask worn by a hidden predator waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
This tale serves as a somber reminder to all who venture forth without care. Whether in the deep woods or the bustling world of men, one must always look beyond the surface. To strike blindly is to invite disaster, and to mistake a resting predator for a harmless victim is a mistake that leaves no room for correction. The Crow’s journey ended there, beneath the canopy, a silent witness to the truth that wisdom must always temper action.
Moral of the Story
“Cunning can often overcome strength when force alone is insufficient.”
