The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing - A sneaky wolf putting on a fluffy white sheep skin disguise at the edge of a green meadow

The Story

Once, in a valley lush with emerald grass and dotted with wildflowers, lived a wolf who found his hunting increasingly difficult. The shepherd was vigilant, and the sheepdogs were fierce, always keeping their charges safe from his hungry gaze. One afternoon, while prowling near the edge of the woods, the wolf stumbled upon a discarded, thick sheepskin left behind by a farmer. A devious plan instantly formed in his mind.

He draped the heavy, woolly coat over his back, pulling it tight until his sharp teeth and grey fur were completely hidden. Satisfied with his transformation, he trotted boldly toward the flock. To his delight, the sheep were completely fooled. They saw only one of their own, a gentle creature wandering among them, and they made no effort to move away. The shepherd, too, was deceived by the sight of the familiar white fleece and went about his duties, unaware of the predator in his midst.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the shepherd decided it was time to lock the flock safely in the fold for the night. He gathered the sheep, and the wolf—still disguised—was ushered inside along with the rest. The air grew cold, and the shepherd, feeling a sudden chill, decided he needed a bit of meat for his evening stew. He walked into the fold, his eyes scanning the flock for a suitable sheep.

In the dim light, his hand fell upon the wolf. Mistaking the predator for his largest, plumpest sheep, the shepherd grabbed him by the neck. The wolf, realizing his ruse had come to a violent end, struggled to break free, but the shepherd’s grip was firm. With a swift movement, the shepherd pulled the beast aside and, in a moment of grave realization, saw the truth beneath the wool. The wolf’s deception had led him not to a feast, but to his own undoing. He learned too late that a disguise may fool the eyes, but it cannot change the nature of the beast.

Moral of the Story

Appearances can be deceiving, and those who act with malice often hide behind a facade of innocence.
