The Story
A majestic lion, the undisputed king of the jungle, once wandered down to the sandy shores of the great blue sea. As he paced along the water’s edge, his golden mane catching the sunlight, he spotted a dolphin leaping gracefully through the waves. The lion was struck by the creature's immense strength and agility. He approached the water and called out to the dolphin, suggesting an alliance.
'Great swimmer of the deep,' the lion roared with respect, 'you are the master of the ocean, and I am the undisputed ruler of the land. If we join forces, we shall become the most powerful pair in all the world. Together, no creature on earth or in the sea could ever hope to challenge us.'
The dolphin, peering up from the surf with a curious eye, agreed to the pact. He admired the lion’s noble stature and felt that such a partnership would indeed bring great security to them both. They shook paws and fins, solidifying their friendship.
Not long after, the lion found himself locked in a fierce battle with a wild bull. The struggle was grueling, and the lion, feeling overwhelmed by the bull’s savage strength, let out a desperate roar for his new ally. He looked toward the sea, hoping to see the dolphin leaping onto the sand to aid him in his time of need.
However, the dolphin was trapped by his own nature. He thrashed about in the shallows, trying his best to reach the shore, but he could not emerge from the water. He was a creature of the sea, and his body was not designed for the dry, rugged terrain of the land. The lion, seeing his friend struggle in vain, felt a flash of anger and accused him of betrayal.
'How could you abandon me when I needed you most?' the lion cried out in frustration.
The dolphin, gasping as the tide receded, replied sadly, 'Do not blame me, my friend. Blame nature, which made me a master of the waves but a prisoner of the shore. I am a creature of the ocean, and while my heart is with you, my body can never follow where you lead.'
Moral of the Story
“Do not promise what you cannot perform, for nature dictates our limits.”
